Downtown & Business Committee Meeting Minutes 5-15-08
TOWN OF FARMINGTON
DOWNTOWN & BUSINESS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
THURSDAY – May 15, 2008
356 Main Street, Farmington

Members Present:        JoAnn Doke, Cindy Snowdon, Deb Scanlon, John Fitch, Jeanette Colpitt

Selectman's Rep:        Joan Funk

Chairman JoAnn Doke called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm.

Review of Minutes:
Jeanette Colpitt motioned to accept the minutes of April’s meeting as amended to show the motion to adjourn, 2nd John Fitch. Motion carried with all in favor.

Town Signs:
John will go with Joan to look at the Welcome to Farmington signs.  The signs on Rte. 11 and Spring St. just need to be raised so they are more visible.  John offered to build a brace for this project out of lumber he is donating.  The sign in front of the fire department will be redone by the high school shop class before the end of the school year.  It was also discussed to take a picture of the new sign with the students who created it for the newspaper and to thank them with ice cream from Mro’s.

Business Directory:
A discussion was held on what the cost would be for 100 copies of the letter and business directory in color.  Jeanette Colpitt motioned to have 100 copies of each made, 2nd John Fitch. Motion carried with all in favor.  Joan will get these copies from Megan and John agreed to deliver downtown.

Budget Discussion:
Joan will request for this committee to have a separate budget line because they have money to deposit.  The committee would like $2000 for refurbishing the town signs, lists, etc.  It was also discussed what to do with the funds if the Selectmen do not grant this request.

Ribbon Cuttings:
The committee completed four ribbon cuttings today at Second Time Around, The Bookery, Ellen’s Seafood and Mi Casa Restaurant.  The next round of ribbon cuttings is scheduled for Thursday June 5, 2008 to start at 4pm.  The businesses that will be included in order are Mills Market, Cameron’s Floral Shop, LJ & Me Laundry and Snowdon Reality.  JoAnn said Attaboy Dog Training requested to not have a ribbon cutting.

It was also discussed that Arboropro, the Gulf Station, Northwind Siding, The Game Stop and Pearson’s should be included in the future ribbon cuttings.

Other:
JoAnn asked the members if they would like to meet over the summer and Joan responded that she does not think it is a good idea to take a break now, but maybe in the summer months.  The committee agreed with Joan.

The committee discussed that they do not want to do anything for Hay Day.

Jeanette suggested the committee assist the downtown merchants with organizing a Fall Fling.

Jeanette suggested putting a message on Ch. 26 that says something like “Keep it local” to promote in town businesses.  The committee was in agreement that this was a good idea and JoAnn will speak to Ed Mullen about it and put it in the Puddledock as well.

John Fitch motioned to adjourn, JoAnn Doke seconded.  Motion passed with all in favor.

Meeting adjourned at 5:28 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Brandy Sanger
Recording Secretary
